NAM stands for Non Alignment Movement.

NAM was formed during the Cold War on the intiative of then president of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito.

This was formed as an organisations of States who didn't want to formally allign themselves with either the United States or Soviet Union but sought to remain independent or neutral. The first NAM summit conference was held at Cairo, Egypt in thr year 1961.

FUNCTIONS:

● to create an independent path for the countries so that they don't come in between the major powers

● supporting national independence and maintaining international peace and promotion of national interest

● restructuring international economic order

● dissociation from Military alliances that were formed as a result of rivalry between the super powers.

● independence of judgement in judging international issues

● believe in domestic approach to international relations by all the countries of the world

● opposing colonialism and racialism.
