what is natural vegetation?
The natural vegetation is the endowments of nature. They grow naturally by following the climatic variables. The types of natural vegetation differ according to precipitation, soil, climate, and topography. The cultivated crops and fruits, orchards form part of vegetation, but not natural vegetation.
Natural vegetation refers to a plant community which has grown naturally without human aid. They have been left undisturbed by humans for a long time. We call this virgin vegetation. Thus, cultivated crops and fruits, orchards form part of vegetation but not natural vegetation
Natural Vegetation of India:-
- India is bestowed with a wide range of flora and fauna. Due to a diverse geographical and climatic condition, an extensive range of natural vegetation grows in India.
Types of Natural Vegetation in India
(Vegetation Types of India)
- Tropical Evergreen Rain Forests
- Tropical Deciduous Forests
- Dry Deciduous Forests
- Mountain Forests
- Tidal or Mangrove Forests
- Semi-Desert and Desert Vegetations
1). Tropical Rain Forests:-
- These forests are restricted to heavy rainfall areas of the Western Ghats and the island groups of Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar, upper parts of Assam and Tamil Nadu coast. They are at their best in areas having more than 200 cm of rainfall with a short dry season. The trees reach great heights up to 60 meters or even above. Some of the commercially important trees of this forest are ebony, mahogany, rosewood, rubber and cinchona.
2). Tropical Deciduous Forests:-
- These are the most widespread forests of India. They are the monsoon forests and spread over the region receiving rainfall between 200 cm and 70 cm. Trees of this forest-type shed their leaves for about six to eight weeks in dry summer.
3). Dry Deciduous forests:-
- These forests grow in areas where the precipitation is between 50 cm and 100 cm. These are mainly seen in the areas of the Central Deccan plateau, Punjab, Haryana, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and South-east of Rajasthan.
4). Mountain Forests:-
- Mountain forests can be defined as forests on land with an elevation of 2 500 m above sea level or higher, irrespective of slope, or on land with an elevation of 300–2 500 m and a slope with sharp changes in elevation within a short distance.
5). Tidal or Mangrove Forests:-
- The mangrove forests are called by various names like tidal forests, coastal woodlands, walking forests in the sea, roots of the sea or oceanic rainforests. When considering these forests, we should not look at the trees, animals and the fish as separate entities; it is one wholesome ecological environment.
6). Semi-Desert and Desert Vegetations:-
- Cool and warm deserts and semi-deserts dominated by xeromorphic growth forms, including succulent (e.g., cacti, euphorbias) and small-leaved shrubs and trees, desert grasses and other xeromorphic growth forms, with an irregular horizontal canopy spacing that is often open to very sparse (1%) cover.
