an object which is moves in the +ve direction has a positive velocity . if object is slowing down then its acceleration vector is directed in the opposite direction as its motion in this case acceleration is negative.

Answer:

Explanation:

The rate of Change of velocity is moving opposite to the direction of motion ,then it is called negative acceleration. Example - if an object is going with speed of 100km/hr and decrease speed immediately to 50km/hr. Then velocity decrease , it means acceleration also decrease, so it is negative acceleration.
