Dear student,

Work is said to be done if a body displaces by the force applied on it.

Work done by a force is said to be negative at the applied force has a component in a direction opposite to that of displacement when 90° < ∅ ≤ 180°. For example;

  • when a body is dragged on rough surface, work done by frictional force is negative.
  • work done by the gravitational force on a vertically projected a body is negative.
