NERVES

Nerves are the bundles of nerve fibres . These are the pathway of electrical impulses that travel from the brain and spinal cord to different parts of the body . Each nerve constitutes by some specialised cells called neurones

TYPES OF NERVE

Depending on the direction in which date transmit impulses , nerve are of three types :

1) Motor nerves : Motor nerves are also called Efferent Nerves . These nerves carry impulses from the brain towards the affected organ such as muscles and glands to control their activities .



2) Sensory nerves : Sensory nerves are also called afferent nerves . These nerves carry impulses from the receptor organs such as eyes , tongue , etc . towards the brain .


3) Mixed nerves : Mixed nerves are the nerves that function both as motor nerves and sensory nerves all the Cranial nerves (nerves arising from the brain) and spinal nerves (nerves arising from the spinal cord) are the example of mixed nerves .
