Presently, grammar is taught by its functional usage rather than teaching the rules and using complex terminology. For example, by continuous use and exposure the learner understands that with plurals and I and II  person, he needs to use have and not has. Once he forms the concept, he is able to correctly apply the same when he is speaking or writing the language. This is also called the communicative approach wherein the learner learns correct usage by grasping them from their usage.

Teaching formal grammar as a subject was found to be unnecessary and, hence, it has gradually yielded place to writing, active speaking and listening. Experts today feel teaching grammar is at best a waste of time and at worst something that hurts students. Meaningful listening, speaking, reading and writing is becoming a part of the curricula across the world. This idea has been reinforced by the fact that if students can anyway be taught to write and speak correctly, why have grammar classes at all  which makes the learning of a language pretty uninteresting.
