Hlo mate!!!
The nitrogen cycle is the biogeochemicalcycle by which nitrogen is converted into multiple chemical forms as it circulates among atmosphere, terrestrial, andmarine ecosystems. ... Importantprocesses in the nitrogen cycle includefixation, ammonification, nitrification, anddenitrification.
The five processes in the nitrogen cycle – fixation, uptake, mineralization, nitrification, and denitrification – are all driven by microorganisms.

Nitrogen Cycle refers to the transformation that nitrogen undergoes in it's movement from atmosphere to land and further in living beings.
- Nitrogen is vital for all forms of life. It is the main element that makes up the amino acids, proteins and even the DNA. Plants require nitrogen as main constituent of 'chlorophyll', which is required by plants to prepare their food (photosynthesis).
- In order to sustain these processes vital to all life forms, nitrogen goes through a cycle of transformation from one chemical form to another.
- Nitrogen Cycle may be divided into the following five stages:
- Nitrogen Fixation : Since atmospheric nitrogen cannot be used in it's original form, it is 'fixed' into a more usable form, called ammonia. Certain bacteria present in the soil perform this task of fixation, making the soil more fertile for plants.
- Nitrification : In the soil the ammonium ions are further converted to chemicals like nitrite and nitrate. This process is called as Nitrification.
- Assimilation : Through this process, plants take up the fixed nitrogen and incorporate them into plant proteins. Animals use plants as their food and in this way nitrogen enters the living beings.
- Ammonification : Through this process the organic nitrogen in proteins is further excreted by animals and plants and again takes the form of ammonia.
- Denitrification : Anaerobic bacteria in the wetlands soil convert the ammonia back to gaseous form N2 which is then released into the atmosphere, completing the cycle. Denitrification occurs in the absence of oxygen or where oxygen is very less in quantity.
