Nitrogen Fixation is the process of converting atmospheric nitrogen into water soluble nitrates and nitrites. And the bacteria that do this are called nitrogen fixing bacteria. They may be free living like Azotobacter and Clostridium or symbiotic like Rhizobium

Nitrogen fixing bacteria are bacteria which helps in converting the atmospheric nitrogen into fixed nitrogen which can be consumed by plants for their utility. For example, rhizobiums etc...
