Answer

Providing a scientific name to an identified organism is called nomenclature.

Scientific names are given to plants based on agreed principles and criteria provided in International code for Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN).

Know more :

Rules of ICBN :

\diamond Biological names are in Latin and written in italics.

\diamond The first word in a scientific name represent the genus while the second Component represent the specific epithet.

\diamond If the name is hand written then they are separately underlined and printed in italics to detect their Latin Origin.

\diamond Genus starts with capital letter and specific epithet starts with small letter.

Example :- Mangifera indica here Mangifera represents Genus and indica represents specific epithet.
