A supernova is an event which characterises the death of a star. In the core of a star takes place Nuclear fusion. Lighter elements combine to form heavier elements and ultimately iron now iron has a great density which directly proportional to the gravitational force and as the gravity at core increases to a great extent the star collapses into itself sending out shock waves and then condensing into a single point known as the singularity that forms the black hole.
