Nuclear power is obtained by altering the structure of atoms. When such an alteration is made energy is released in the form of heat. This heat, called nuclear energy, is used to generate electricity. The first nuclear power station to generate electricity on a commercial basis was started in UK in 1956. UK was soon award taken in the field by USA. Other countries generating nuclear power are Japan, Germany, Russia, France Sweden, Canada, Australia and Spain.
At present a number of developing country has opted for next year power as an alternative to conventional method of electricity generation. Among these countries are India, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, Egypt, Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan and Argentina. In India, the main nuclear power generating station at Tarapur, Kalpakkam, Rawatbhata, Narora, kakrapara and Kota.
