when sodium sulphate is added to barium chloride then Barium sulphate is formed and also sodium chloride is formed
bacl2+na2so4--baso4+nacl
this type of reaction is called precipitation reaction bcoz Baso4 precipitate is formed here which is of white color

hridim61: is it called double displacement
Akshay0605: yes of course
hridim61: thank u
Akshay0605: precipitation as well as double displacement both are right

When a solution of sodium sulphate is added to a solution of barium chloride, a white precipitate of barium sulphate is seen to be formed immediately.

This precipitate is insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acid( dil.HCl).

This is an example of precipitation reaction as a distinct white precipitate is formed.

The equation of the above mentioned reaction is given as follows:

Na2SO4 (aq) + BaCl2(aq) -------> BaSO4(s) + 2NaCl(aq)
