What is observed when dry rose petals are placed into a gas jar of sulphur dioxide??

The rose gets slightly bleached, but regains it's colour when it is left in air for a few hours

Sulphur dioxide is a good reducing agent, hence it can easily decolourise substances in the presence of water. Therefore, when rose petals are placed in a jar containing sulphur dioxide, they get decolourised.
