Animals come in heat due to hormonal effects (estrogen) and are ready to be conceived because of ovulation in oestrus cycle. Proestrus, Metestrus,Diestrus and Post estrous are four phases of estrus cycle.Insemination must be carried out during the Post estrous phase, when ova are released in and fertilization can take place in middle of Fallopian tubes. In cows and buffalo,the duration of oestrus cycle is 21 days.If fertilization takes place,the animal don't come in heat,but if fails to conceive, it will come in heat again after 21 days.
