Knowing the solubility of a compound is very important because

1) it helps in understanding environmental impacts of of acid drainage wherein acid soluble metals such as lead in rocks are released to the ocean where it kills fishes and other animals because it is toxic in high concentration.

2) Acidic gases in the atmosphere that are soluble with the water vapor in the atmosphere produce acid rain which may kills crops and other organisms in water reservoirs.

3) Calcium carbonate is highly soluble in acidic water (carbonic acid). So a land which is rich in calcium carbonate, is flooded oftentimes then over time, that land will form sinkholes, karsts and caves.

4)Carbonic acid is formed from the reaction of CO2 and H2O thus a land that is rich in CO2 deposits is prone to collapse during heavy rains because rain water and CO2 will react forming carbonic acid that weakens the rocks/land.

These are just some of the many importances of knowing the solubility of compounds.
