A short description of Operation Vijay and how it happened is given below:
- Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli were colonized by the Portuguese and administered by Lisbon for 451 years. Goa, unlike the rest of the country, did not gain independence on August 15, 1947.
- When the Indian Armed Forces freed the state from Portuguese authority in 1961, called "Operation Vijay." Goa was invaded by Indian forces who crossed the border. The Portuguese soldiers unconditionally surrendered on December 19 after more than 36 hours of relentless land, sea, and air bombardment.
- The Portuguese were being reluctant to free Goa from their, Therefore this operation was announced and it became one the great freedom stories for the rest of the country.
