The compounds which change the direction of Plane polarised light (PPL) either in right hand side(+ve or dextro) or in left hand side (-ve or laevo) making an angle with wave of propagation after passing through Nicol prism,
these compounds are called as optically active compounds.
The compounds having chiral carbon are optically active compounds.
The compounds in which plane of symmetry is absent are optically active.
