The order of energies of EM waves from highest to lowest is given below:-

Gamma-rays > X- rays > UV- rays > visible light > infrared > radio waves

thus we see that Gamma rays have highest energy and radio waves have lowest energy.

The order of the energy is EX > EM > ER.

All the three waves mentioned here, i.e., X-Ray, Radio wave and Micro wave are Electromagnetic wave.

The energy of a Electromagnetic wave is calculated by the formula,

E = hγ [γ = Frequency of the wave , h = Planck's constant]

or, E = hc/λ [λ = Wavelength of the wave, c = speed of the light]

E ∝ γ

or, E∝ 1/λ

The range of the frequencies of the waves lie as follow:

  1. X-Ray : 10¹⁸ Hz (in the range of)
  2. Radio waves : 10⁴ Hz (in the range of)
  3. Microwaves : 10⁸ Hz (in the range of)

So, the trend of frequency is  EX > EM > ER

And as E ∝ γ

So, The order of the energy is EX > EM > ER.
