Origin of Replication (Ori) :-

○ The synthesis of new DNA molecules from a pre-existing DNA called replication.

○ DNA replication starts at a point called Ori (Origin of replication).

○ In bacteria and viruses there is only one Ori where as in eukaryotes there may be several Ori.

○ A unit of rerplication with one origin is called replicon.

○ During replication, the hydrogen bonds between two strands of DNA helices are broken down and the strands unwind and separate.

○ The enzyme which participate in this process of unwinding helix are called helicase.

○ The separation occurs in manner resembling the unzipping of zip.

○ The separated strands act as template strands for the synthesis of new strand.
