OSMOSIS:

The movement or water molecules from high water concentration to low water concentration throgh a semipermeable membrane is called osmosis.

OR

The movement of molecules of water from low solute concentration to high sikhte concentration through a semipermeable membrane is called osmosis.

TYPES OF OSMOSIS :

Endoosmosis - The movement of water molecules through a semipermeable membrane inside the cell from the surroundings is called endomosis.

Exomosmosis - The movement of water molecules through a semipermeable membrane outside the cell from inside the cell is called exomosis.

EXAMPLE :

When we put a resin in water , then it gains water through osmosis since the concentration of water inside the resin is less than the concentration outside the resin through endomosis.

Again when we put swelled resin in high concentrated sugar solution then it will loose water through exomosis simply because the concentration of water inside the resin is more than the concentration of water outside the resin.
