Ovary is the female reproductive part. In plants it is a bulged portion present near the thalamus of the flower. When the pollen grains are found sticking on the stigma, a pollen tube develops thereby leading to absorption of the pollen grains from stigma and eventually allowing the grains to fuse with the ovary to form a zygote.

This zygote on developing develops into a fruit where the ovules are embedded as seeds inside the fruit.

In case of humans, Ovary is called as the place from which egg or ovum is released every month by the women's body. After releasing of egg if any male gamete fuses with the egg, it results in the formation zygote which further develops into a well developed embryo.
