a local bus is carrying 40 passengers, some with 50 paise tickets and the remaining with 1.50 pause tickets.if total recipts from these passenger is rupees 32,find the number of people with 50 paise

Let the number of passengers with 50 paise and 1 rupee 50 paise tickets be x and y respectively.
So, we have x+y=40 → (1)
Also, total amount collected is 32 rupees.
i.e, 0.5x +1.5y = 32
⇒x + 3y = 64 → (2)
Solving Eqs. (1) and (2) we get - 
x = 28 and y =12
Hence, no. of people with 50 paise ticket = 28
