saimanojkumarkankana: The Cu(NO3)2 is an ionic compound with overall oxidation number “0”. Therefore we know that sum of all the oxidation number of Cu, N and O is equal to 0.

The first step is jot down the charges of the elements since it is an ionic bond. Cu=+2, N=+5, O=-2.
Simply add the numbers based on the formula:
0= +2 (2(+5) + 2×3(-2))

0= +2 (+ 10 - 12)

0=0

Therefore , The above maths clearly proves that the charges of the elements in the ionic bond is equal to Cu=+2, N=+5, O=-2 Hence, it is the oxidation number.

Answer: N=+3

Explanation:

Cu(NO3)2=0

let the oxidation no. of N be x

⇒+2(x+(-2)3)2=0

⇒+2(2x-6)2=0

⇒+2(4x-12)=0

⇒+8x-24=0

⇒+8x=+24

⇒x=24/8

⇒x=+3
