oxyacetylene flame refers to the flame produced when ethyne(acetylene) reacts with oxygen...This process is highly exothermic and is also used for welding metals....
A mixture of air and acetylene is not used because oxygen is present in a very small quantity in air...and hence during reaction, ethyne will not get completely oxidised...resulting in a yellowish flame...which is not effective for wielding metals...
