Oxygen forms 21% of the atmosphere. It is also present in hydrosphere and lithosphere. Oxygen is required for the process of respiration, decomposition, combustion, corrosion, rusting, etc. Oxygen is important for the synthesis of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. It is also used in various chemical reaction. Ozone (O3) is produced from oxygen though various atmospheric processes. This ozone layer protects us from the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun.
