ahoy!

____

=> the rhythmic contractions of food pipe or oesophagous allow the food to move easily down to the stomach.

=> it separates the food in a way that stomach doesn't get filled all of a sudden.

=> the digestive enzymes from mouth get mixed up because of these contractions increasing the effect of bio catalysts which come along the way.

Peristalsis is a series of wave-like muscle contractions that moves food to different processing stations in the digestive tract. The process of peristalsis begins in the esophagus when a bolus of food is swallowed.
