Hi, this is a very nice question.

So peristalsis is the movement of food down the oesophagus, the contraction and relaxation of muscles is what causes the movement down. Food travels in balls hence, peristalsis makes it easier.

However, in the snake, no peristalsis takes place. The snake has no back bone or spine, hence, the movement is there. A normal body, animal body, can not move in that way as they have back bones.

Hope I cleared your concept, Thank you.

Peristalsis is a series of muscle contraction which occurrs basically in the digestive tract of the organisms body. It is also observed in the bladder of the kidney to the bladder. It is an automated process which occours in the body.

It is helpful for the downward movement of the food and various other organs in the body.

Snakes crawl in the ground. They don't do peristalsis.
