What is perroxide effect? Why is it applicable only in the case of addition oh HBr and not in the case of hcl and Hi

Hi!

I'm not sure what it means EXACTLY but this is the reason.

In case of HCl, the abstraction of H ion from HCl is endothermic and hence further reaction is not possible because heat is required for the peroxide effect.

And in case of HI , even though the abstraction of H ion from HI is exothermic, the addition of I ion free radical to alkene is endothermic. Hence addition with HI is less likely to occur.

Hope this helped you!
