Answer:

Phyllotaxy (phyllotaxis) is the mode of arrangement of leaves, scales, or bracts with flowers along the plant stem. Phyllotaxy research deals with the study of biological pattern formation (morphogenesis); it answers questions such as what the shoot apical meristem (SAM) does and how it does it.Phyllotaxy refers to the pattern or arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch of a plant. It is of three types: alternate, opposite and whorled phyllotaxy. In alternate phyllotaxy, a single leaf arises from the node of a branch. This type of phyllotaxy is observed in the sunflower, mustard and peepal.

Answer:

Phyllotaxy is the pattern of arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch of a plant. There are mainly three types:

Alternate: When a single leaf arises from each node, in an alternate manner. E.g: Chinarose, sunflower etc.

Opposite: In this type, pairs of leaves arise at each node and lie opposite each other. E.g: Calotropis, guava etc,

Whorled: More than two leaves arise at each node and are arranged in the form of a whorl. E.g: Nerium, devil tree etc.
