A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens but with a tiny aperture (the so-called pinhole)—effectively a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through the aperture and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box, which is known as the camera obscura effect

Pinhole Camera:

A pinhole camera is a simple device that works on the principle of the rectilinear propagation of light. It has a small hole though which the image of an object is obtained.

Construction:

Constructing a pinhole camera is very easy. Take two boxes such that one box can slide into the with no gap in between them. Cut open one side of the boxes. On the opposite face of the larger box, make a small hole in the middle. Now,cut a square of about 5 cm from the middle of the opposite of the cut side of the small box. Cover the square with tracing paper that acts as a screen. Slide the small box inside the larger one with the hole, in such a way that the side with the tracing paper is on opposite side of the hole. Pinhole camera is ready.

Example of a pinhole camera:

The wholes in a shadow of a tree in a sun is a natural pinhole camera.
