Placenta is a disc like structure which develops between the uterus and the developing embryo.

It is composed of villi and blood sacs.

It helps to provide the developing embryo with:

• nourishment which helps in growth.
• it helps is transferring food and oxygen to baby.
• it helps in taking back some nitrogenous waste and deoxygenated blood.
