What is placenta? State its function in human female.(All India - 2014)

Answer:Placenta is a disc like structure which is embedded in the uterine wall. It contains villi on embryo side of tissue and contains blood spaces on mother's side.

Explanation: Functions:-

1) It provides glucose and oxygen to growing embryo in the uterus from mother's body by providing large surface area.

2) It transfers the waste generated by embryo to mother's blood for it's removal.
