Plasma Membrane is the outer soft covering of the cells. It is also called semi-permeable membrane also because it allows the entrance of the enzymes or fluids which it senses that it will cause no harm to the cell. It also provides the shape of the cell.

Plasma membrane is the other name of cell membrane.
It lies beneath the cell wall in plant cells and is the outer most layer in animal cells.
It acts as a semi-permeable membrane and allows the movement of only specific substances across it.
Plasma membrane shows more membrane permeability towards hydrophobic substances rather than towards hydrophillic substances.
