A covalent bond is formed by mutual sharing of electrons between atoms in a molecule.

If the bond is formed between two similar atoms ( eg. H2,O2 , F2 , N2,)the shared pair of electrons is equally attracted by the two atoms . The bond so formed is a NON POLAR COVALENT BOND.

In a molecule made of dissimilar atoms , the shared electron pair is attracted towards the more electronegative atom , thus giving it a partial n gative charge and the other atom a partial positive charge. The bond so formed is a Polar Covalent Bond.

Answer:

Polar compounds have negative charge at one end and positive charge at another end such as in water whereas in non polar compounds no specific charge is present or no dipole moment such as in methane and benzene.
