what is polynomials ?
Answers
Required Answer:
A polynomial is an expression with three or more terms in it.
- For example:
2x + 5 - 3 + 4 is a polynomial.
It has more than three terms.
Note exception:
The expression 2x + 3x + 4z - 5y cannot be a polynomial.
It is considered as a trinomial. Why is it so?
Answer: Here, we can see like terms having same variables, we can add them.
After adding the expression will be 5x + 4z - 5y which is a trinomial.

There are 4 types of expressions on the basis of terms. They are:
- Monomial
- Binomial
- Trinomial
- Polynomial
Monomial: A monomial is an expression having only a single term. Eg: 2x, 3z, 76y, etc.
Binomial: A binomial is an expression having two terms.
Eg: 2x + 3y, 3z - 2x, etc.
Trinomial: A trinomial is an expression having three terms. Eg: 23y + 2z - 3p, 9z - 2x + 3p,etc.
