What is Postzygotic isolation?
As according to this type of isolation, a hybrid zygote is formed but it may not develop into a viable fertile adult.
Types of postzygotic isolation are as follows:-
- (i) Hybrid inviability:- In case that hybrid zygote is unable to develop then in plants, embryos arising from interspecific cross will not be viable.
- (ii) Hybrid sterility:- Mules and hinny are the best example of this type of sterility. In this, Hybrid adults are sterile and they don't have ability to produce gametes.
- (iii) Hybrid breakdown:- Sometimes in case of inter specific mating this type of hybrid is produced, then it will give rise to next the next hybrid by the process back cross but now they may have reduced vigour or fertility or even both.
