What is poultry farming ?How does it help in solving food and nutrition problems?

Rearing of birds for meat and egg production is called poultry. We give poultry less fibrous food, and, in return poultry gives us nutritious anf proteinaceous eggs and meat. so it will help in solving food and nutrition problem.

⚫Rearing of chicken, turkey and geese for egg meat is called poultry farming.

⚫The breeds of poultry farming can be of two types:- Indigenous and Exotic.
▶Indigenous - Local breeds. Eg:- Aseel
▶Exotic - Foreign. Eg:- Leghorn

⚫The desirable characteristics of the poultry are as follows:-
▶Larger number of better quality of chicks.
▶Drawf broiler for better quality of meat.
▶Adaptation towards high temperature in summers.
▶Low maintenance requirement.
▶Ability to utilise cheap diet using agricultural products.

⚫The layers (egg layers) are given a diet which is rich in Vitamin A whereas broilers are given a diet which is rich in proteins and fats.
