Hi there!

*In a democracy, all power does not rest with any one organ of the state.
*An intelligent sharing of power among the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary is very important to the design of democracy..

At present, in India power is shared among the legislative, executive and the judiciary. We call this as a horizontal distribution of power...

Why Horizontal distribution of power?
It is because, it allows different organs of the govt placed at the same level to get different powers.

Separation ensures that none of the organs exercise unlimited power... Each organ checks the work of others.. Thus resulting in a good balance..

Similarly, although judges are appointed by the executive, they can check the functioning of executive or laws made by legislatures.

This way of process is called checks and balances...

Hope u can understand this...
Thanks
