CuSO4 (aq) + 2KI(aq) --> CuI2(s) + K2SO4(aq) Before you could write a net ionic equation, you first have to come up with a complete ionic equation. Remember that both solutions are aqueous. Aqueous solutions have water as a solvent. If they dissolve in water, they dissociate into ions. We will separate each substance into ions. Don't separate the substance labeled (s) into ions because that's the precipitate. Remember that the precipitate is not soluble in water. To know which is soluble in water and which is not, read the solubility rules. Here's the complete ionic equation: Cu2+ + SO4[2-] + 2K+ + 2I- --> CuI2(s) + 2K+ + SO4[2-] To get the net ionic equation, cancel out all the spectator ions. Spectator ions appear on both sides of the equation and don't participate in the actual reaction. The net ionic equation is: Cu2+ + 2I- --> CuI2(s) :)
