an object which is given an initial velocity and moves in space freely under the influence of gravity and frictional resistance ( offered by the air ) of the atmosphere is called projectile motion ( ballistic missile is its other name )
a body can be made to follow a projectile motion either by throwing them horizontally from a height or can be thrown into space from the ground making an angle with the horizontal

eg:-- a ball kicked from the ground level
 - javelin throw by a one
 - shot fired from a gun
