There are 2 types of wave:
1) Longitudinal waves
they are easy to understand just imagine you are playing a guitar or a sitar... the waves then produced are called longitudnal waves..
2) Transverse waves
Imagine a spring which is fixed on one side and you stretch it then what would happen... it will go up and down ofcourse.. This behaviour is of Transverse waves
