Protista is the Second Kingdom of Organisms.

1. They are Eukaryotes. They have well defined membrane bound Nucleus.

2. Protista includes single celled organisms.

3. Membrane bound organelles like Nucleus, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Mitochondria and Golgi bodies are present.

4. Cell walls like monerans, may be present or may not be present.

5. Some Protists like Amoeba and Paramecium can ingest food like animals.

6. Some protists like Euglena have chlorophyll and manufacture their own food like the plants.

7. In the absence of Light they become heterotrophic and ingest other protists like Protozoa. This dual mode of nutrition resulted in their placements both in Plants and Animals Kingdom.

8. Some of Protists are Pathogens. For example - Entameoba histolyica, Which cause dysentery and Plasmodium Vivax which cause Malaria.
