Proto-industrialization refers to the phase before industrialisation. It can also be defined as the earliest and initial age of industrialisation. It was an early stage in the development of modern industrial economies that preceded, and created conditions for, the establishment of fully industrial societies.

Proto Industrialisation was the early phase of industrialisation in Europe and England when there was scale industrial production for an international market. This was not based on factories
