A pulsar (from pulse and -ar as in quasar) is a highly magnetized rotating neutron star that emits beams of electromagnetic radiation out of its magnetic poles. The periods of pulsars make them very useful tools for astronomers.

Pulsar is a rapidly spinning neutron star. It is a sphere composed mostly of neutron star , approximately 10 miles in diameter but with 40% more mass than the sun.

A typical Pulsar is has a magnetic field a trillion time stronger then the earth field , represented by red lines emmigrating from its surface .

These Fields and Associated electric fields accelerate electron and other subatomic particles to nearly speed of light causing then to emits beams of radio waves.

As the pulsar rotates these Beams sweep across space. If the beams intersects the earth the pulsar can be seen switching 'on' and 'off' much like a Lighthouse.
