A region in apical meristem of a root where cell division proceeds very slow or not at all,but the cells are capable of resuming meristematic activity should tissue surrounding them to be damaged.

Some points on quiescent centre are as follows:-
1. This term was introduced by Clowes.
2. He discovered it in maize root.
3. Amount of active cell in between dermatogen & calyptrogen will be very less. This is known as quiescent centre.
4. These type of cell contain very less amount of RNA or DNA.
5. Also protein synthesis or cytoplasm is found very less in these cells.
6. In meristem it function in maintaining of the damaged cells.
7. It is found in crescentic shaped.
