The two evolutionary "strategies" are termed r-selection, for those species that produce many "cheap" offspring and live in unstable environments and K-selection for those species that produce few "expensive" offspring and live in stable environments.

Explanation:

r and k are two different strategy system acquired by the population of an ecosystem to sustain their continuity on biosphere by reproduction.

Features of r-strategy:

- The organisms following r-strategy system usually focus on the quantity of reproduction rather than quality.

- They reproduce according to their self-potential i.e. Fecundity.

- Usually a high number of organisms are formed and poor parental care is provided.

- The growth curve is usually Exponential and a straight fall in growth occurs.

- They usually face disasters and mass death by diseases, natural calamities or lack of resources.

- Example: Frogs

Features of k - strategy:

- The organisms following r-strategy system usually focus on the quality of reproduction rather than quantity.

- They always reproduce under the limit of carrying capacity of the environment.

- Usually low number of offsprings are produced, but high parental care is ensured.

- The growth curve is logistic (or sigmoid).

- They usually complete their life cycle and dies naturally.

- They never face lack of resources due to breeding less than carrying capacity.

- Example: Mammals like Monkeys and humans.
