A radical is an atom or a group of atoms of the same or of different elements that behaves as a single unit with positive or negative charge.
The formula depicting or symbolic representation of a radical is radical formula.
For example,
CH3COO which is acetate has one negative charge on it while Cr2O7 which is dichromate has two negative charge on it. Zinc has two positive charge on it.
The radicle with positive charge is called cation or electropositive and the one with negative charge on it is called anion or electronegative radicle.
