Random motion, also called Brownian motion (after Robert Brown, the famous botanist) is the haphazard movement of the particles of a fluid (liquid or gas).

CAUSE: Random motion is caused by the collision of the particles with the atoms or molecules in rapid transit inside the gas or liquid.

SIGNIFICANCE: Random motion bears testimony to the existence of atoms and molecules. It establishes that the particles of a fluid are in perpetual motion and the direction of motion is ever-changing.
