The phenomenon associated with the changes in the speed of light as it goes from one medium to another. It is usually observed as the change in the direction of propagation of incident ray when it passes from one optical transparent medium to another. Examples of refraction are bending of the sun's rays as they enter raindrops, forming a rainbow.

- It reduces the item's density.

For ex - In area of low relative pressure following a shock wave.

- Formation of low pressure zones in sound waves.
