1.Basic idea behind decentralisation is that there are a large no of problems and issues which are best settled at the local level.

2.People have better knowledge of problems in their own localities.

3.They also have better ideas on where to spend money and how to manage things efficiently.

4.Besides, at local level it is possible for the people to directly participate in decision making.

The structure is as follows:

• The smallest or the basic type of local govt is the gram panchayat( they are elected by the members of gram sabha)

• Then a bigger type of govt is the panchayat samiti (elected by members of gram panchayat) the head of local govt is the zila panchayat (elected by members of all panchayat samitis).

This prevents misleading and misuse of power resulting in discrimination in different sectors..
